M416 Scepter Fuel Can Racks

It took me some time to figure out where to carry my Scepter Fuel cans on my M416 trailer. We initially carried two fuel cans on top of the FJ. We then went on a trip where we needed to use the 2 cans and did not have a reserve. I always like to carry one backup can that I hope we do not need.

Moving 2 cans to the trailer and keeping one on the FJ rack seems to be the right choice for us. If we setup the trailer as a base camp will will still have one can when we are off in the FJ. The scepter cans can be carried on their side which increases the options for carrying. A while ago I decided that the best place for the cans would be on their side in front of the fenders.

I have been planning on this modification for some time and finally got around to it, went and got the steal, and using my somewhat rudimentary welding skills I fabricated two racks for the cans. The racks have lots of slop in them, however this is needed to the cans can still be removed when they expand. The scepters can expand by 2” when they get hot.

Here are the photos of the newly installed racks. Once I am sure they function well I am going to remove them and either powder coat or paint them.
