New Rotors and Pads for my Toyota FJ Cruiser

When my Toyota FJ Cruiser was at the dealer for some service a few weeks ago they informed me that my front brakes pads were getting close to worn out. Instead of having them service the brakes I took this opportunity to add a simply brake upgrade to the FJ. The upgrade consists of better rotors and brake pads.

I chose to go with rotors from Frozen Rotors and Hawk brake pads.

Frozen Rotors are cryogenic treated which extends wear and reduces fade. The cryogenic process basically means the rotors have been frozen with the temperature dropped to around -300 deg F. This process alters the molecular structure of the metal. The rotors have been show to wear for up to 200% longer and are much less prone to warping. Under off-road conditions were A-trac is being utilized the FJ works the front brakes very hard and wear can become an issue.

Hawk Performance brake pads have a proven track record in the performance arena. Combining these pads with the Frozen Rotors should both increase the performance of my braking system and increase the time before service is again needed.

In the next few weeks I’ll be installing these pads and rotors so look for the install article.
