Rasta Skids – Trail Tested

Rasta skids are a quality aluminum skid made in Israel. The skids include coverage from the front to all the way back to the fuel tank.

Skids new

I have been running the Rasta skids for about 8 months and just took them off to be replaced with another brand of skids. I wanted to show the results of heavy trail use.

Gas tank and t-case skid

I used the skids on extremely difficult trails where body damage was a good possibility. The final straw for them was a day on the Rubicon in California. As show by the photos, the aluminum does not hold up well to heavy trail use. The Rasta cross member was bent and all the skids but the engine were bent way out of shape.

Engine and tranmy skids

As a result of this use I would only recommend these skids for users that never venture on to most difficult trails. The skids will protect the under body of the FJ very well and will hold up fine to minor hits and one or two large ones. The engine skids was the most durable of the set.

Gas tank and t-case skids

If you are into heavy duty 4 wheeling where the underside of the FJ will be in contact with lots of rocks I recommend that you instead choose to armor your FJ with steel skids like Bud Built.

tomas

Tomas has lived in Colorado since age 5. Having grown up on the Western Slope of Colorado lots of time was spent in the Desert Southwest. Tomas' father introduced him to the love of 4 wheeling at an early age in the high mountains around Aspen, Colorado. While an avid Mountain Biker, Tomas and his Family enjoy adventures in the mountains and desert in the remote locations that can only be reached by 4wd. Day hikes are always a must when on the family trips. While enjoying outdoor activities he wants to share his love as a certified 4wd trainer and ski instructor. Tomas also enjoys caving and cave exploration. Tomas currently resides in Colorado Springs.
