Onboard Computer Installed

In our previous Toyota FJ Cruiser build, the on board computer was an essential part.  I used the computer for on and off road navigation, weather radar, and internet access. For our new FJ Cruiser, the White Knight, I was able to reuse most of the previous system.

Testing all the connections

The original build includes the following hardware:

  • Jetway NC92-N330 mini-ITX Intel Atom 1.6GHz motherboard
  • 4 com ports
  • Built in GPS using Garmin GPS 15
  • ODB-II Support
  • XENARC 1020TSV – 10.2″ VGA Touch Screen
  • Bluetooth Support
  • WiFi Capability
  • 600MB Hard disk

System installed in FJ

The system is built using a well ventilated ITX motherboard case. I mounted the system covering the right rear window. This location will provide very good ventilation for cooling. The picture shows the 3 WiFi antennas and the external Bluetooth antenna.

RAM Mount

The monitor is mounted on an FJ specific RAM computer mount. The display can be located for either driver or passenger use. The cell phone cradle is attached to the monitor. The Xenarc monitor has 2 additional analog video inputs that I am going to use for off-road cameras. IT also supports picture-in-picture.

Xenarc Display

With this new build I have installed an ODB-II interface that uses Bluetooth. I converted to bluetooth to prevent any ground loop problems.

tomas

Tomas has lived in Colorado since age 5. Having grown up on the Western Slope of Colorado lots of time was spent in the Desert Southwest. Tomas' father introduced him to the love of 4 wheeling at an early age in the high mountains around Aspen, Colorado. While an avid Mountain Biker, Tomas and his Family enjoy adventures in the mountains and desert in the remote locations that can only be reached by 4wd. Day hikes are always a must when on the family trips. While enjoying outdoor activities he wants to share his love as a certified 4wd trainer and ski instructor. Tomas also enjoys caving and cave exploration. Tomas currently resides in Colorado Springs.
