2013 Spring Vacation – Monument Valley

One of the most dramatic and iconic views in the southwest is that of Monument Valley Tribal Park. On previous trips we have stopped and viewed the monolithic formation from the viewing area, however for a change and with time available we chose to drive through the valley.

Our FJ at Monument Valley

Driving Highway 163 south from Bluff Utah Monument valley dominates the horizon. I am not sure of the exact count of towers but the number must be high.

One of the iconic views

To enter the park we turned east off 163 and paid our entrance fee. We first enjoyed the museum and store where they sell many authentic Navajo arts. Leaving the museum we took about 2 hours to drive the valley road. I recommend a vehicle that is at least high clearance 2 wheel drive. I’ll let the photos speak for the views.

Tomas has lived in Colorado since age 5. Having grown up on the Western Slope of Colorado lots of time was spent in the Desert Southwest. Tomas' father introduced him to the love of 4 wheeling at an early age in the high mountains around Aspen, Colorado. While an avid Mountain Biker, Tomas and his Family enjoy adventures in the mountains and desert in the remote locations that can only be reached by 4wd. Day hikes are always a must when on the family trips. While enjoying outdoor activities he wants to share his love as a certified 4wd trainer and ski instructor. Tomas also enjoys caving and cave exploration. Tomas currently resides in Colorado Springs.
