Gota Be Able to Stop – EBC Green Pad Fade

This last fall it was time for new brakes on My FJ Cruiser. With 110,000 miles on the FJC replacing both the pads and rotors where in order so I looked to EBC Brakes for an aftermarket solution. If you have not done brake maintenance on the FJ Cruiser it’s not that hard. Here are two old posts from about performing this maintenance:

Brake Upgrade with Frozen Rotors – Rear

Brake Upgrade with Frozen Rotors – Front

The install was easy and the parts were of good quality. However, stopping is what it is all about. Here in Colorado there are lots of long descents where engine braking is not enough to keep speed in check. With the EBC Green pads I was having problems. These pads seem to heat and fade quickly. Brake fade is NOT something you want to experience with miles of down to go.

More than once I had to pull over and let the pads cool which is a new experience for me. After a fall trip to Montana I had enough and called EBC, based on my complaint they sent me Yellow pads as a warranty replacement. The Yellow pads create more dust but are more resistant to fade. Hey you have to be able to stop.

Tomas has lived in Colorado since age 5. Having grown up on the Western Slope of Colorado lots of time was spent in the Desert Southwest. Tomas' father introduced him to the love of 4 wheeling at an early age in the high mountains around Aspen, Colorado. While an avid Mountain Biker, Tomas and his Family enjoy adventures in the mountains and desert in the remote locations that can only be reached by 4wd. Day hikes are always a must when on the family trips. While enjoying outdoor activities he wants to share his love as a certified 4wd trainer and ski instructor. Tomas also enjoys caving and cave exploration. Tomas currently resides in Colorado Springs.
