2008 Canyonlands Maze Trip

Final Camping site at Indian Creek

We finished the trip with a night camping on the BLM land near Indian Creek. This is the alternate to camping in Canyonlands at Squaw Flats. We found a nice site and were finally able to have a campfire and roast marshmallows. Spending the evening around the camp fire was a great way to end a wonderful trip.

Here are some of the details that I found to be important for a trip into the Maze District:

Reservations, Canyonlands requires reservations for back country camping. If you are going to be making your trip in peak season you may need to get your reservation made months in advance.

Camp Sites, Starting the trip at Panorama POint was a great way to begin. We could see all of Canyonlands a get a perspective of where out trip would take us. For our Second night we should have made it all the way to Doll House and spent 3 nights there. An additional day hike to Chocolate Drops would have been enjoyed by us.

Equipment:

  • Chains should be carried if there is any rick of rain.
  • You need to have your own toilette system. We used the Pett system and were very happy with it.

Tomas has lived in Colorado since age 5. Having grown up on the Western Slope of Colorado lots of time was spent in the Desert Southwest. Tomas' father introduced him to the love of 4 wheeling at an early age in the high mountains around Aspen, Colorado. While an avid Mountain Biker, Tomas and his Family enjoy adventures in the mountains and desert in the remote locations that can only be reached by 4wd. Day hikes are always a must when on the family trips. While enjoying outdoor activities he wants to share his love as a certified 4wd trainer and ski instructor. Tomas also enjoys caving and cave exploration. Tomas currently resides in Colorado Springs.
