Accessory Electrical System Installed

This last weekend I completed the installation f my new accessory electrical system for the FJ Cruiser. The system is designed to isolate all my installed accessories from the Toyota wiring harness. If you look at the Toyota harness you can see that it has been designed with SMALL gauge wires too meet the specific vehicle requirements. I do not feel comfortable adding any load to the factory harness.

My system is designed with the following requirements:

– Have a secondary battery
– Provide fusing nearest to the application as possible
– Isolate the secondary battery from the primary
– Add switch panels for accessory systems
– Consolidate under hood components in one location
– Add passenger compartment fuses is easily accessible location
– Provide both switched and unswitched accessory systems

Here is a summary of the post about each part of the install:

I also added a fuse box at the rear of the FJ for my HAM radio application. This fuse box is wired to the main system with 6 gauge welding wire.:

I also have an unswitched circuit to the rear of the FJ that will be used to power our ARB fridge.

All of the fuse boxes are tied into the main system using 6 gauge welding wire. Welding wire has a high strand count so it is very flexible and has a very durable housing. The system also have a solar panel that is tied in with a charge controller to help maintain the battery when we are parked.

The system is modular and utilizes connectors that allow different components to be pulled with out having to cur wire.
