DeMello Rear Bumper Installed

This last spring I purchased and installed a DeMello Off-Road rear bumper on my Toyota FJ Cruiser. In selecting this bumper the following items were important to me. The bumper needed to be as light as possible, provide some side protection, allow a hitch to be attached, have a flat top surface. The DeMello met these requirements as well as looking good on the back of the FJ.

Installation and fitting the bumper DeMello bumper on the FJ Cruiser took a little effort. The bumper skin from the factory bumper needs to be cut to retain the plastic elements that cover the lower part of the rear quarter panels. With my installation the bumper contacted the body work of the FJ right in the center and  the bumper needed to be ground down to provide clearance.

I like the space for the backup lights in the bumper but have yet to find a low cost alternative to the lights that DeMello recommends. For now I have left light mounts empty.

The backup sensors installed in the bumper and have been working just as they did in the stock bumper.

I ordered and installed the DeMello hitch receiver and have been towing my M416 trailer with it. The attachment point for the safety chains are tucked under the bumper and can be hard to access. The hitch is still the low point and drags during steep departures.

Before using the two shackle anchor points I will be adding additional bolts to the bumper to strengthen the bull point.

I have been very pleased with the bumpers performance and the finish has held up well.
