Wolf Creek Runaway Truck

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a truck driver and lose your brakes? I have been traveling Colorado Passes since I was 5 years old I this is the first time I have seen a runaway truck.  We were on our way down the south side of Wolf Creek Pass and this driver had tried to take a short cut to the runaway truck ramp. The ramp was about 100’ more down the road. I can just imagine he saw the signs and REALY wanted to get there. Instead he hit a large rock and some snow banks. The ramp would have been a slow deceleration.

They really mean No PARKING!

He must be making a call to the boss to explain where the truck and trailer are.

There is a long downhill that is pretty straight. The only problem is that it ends with a switch back.

On the other side of the switchback is this cliff.

Originally when the pass was built there were no truck ramps so the only option was a launch off the edge.
