Death Valley – The Way Home

It was time for us to leave Death Valley and head home. The plan was for a leisurely three day drive back to Colorado.

We left Death Valley by the north route on Death Valley Road. We headed into Big Pine to fuel up and enjoy the spectacular view of the Sierra Nevada’s. Leaving Big Pine we headed east on Highway 168 which took us over the mountains back into Nevada.

LJ wanted to do some rock hunting so we took a route through Nevada that would allow for 2 rock hunting stops.  One stop provided a great opportunity to collect Apache Tears.

We spent the night near the Utah Nevada Border in Cold Springs. Leaving cold springs we headed into Cedar City for breakfast.

Red Canyon

Our Drive through Utah took us from Cedar City on Highway 14 through Red Canyon. Red Canyon offers some of the same scenery as Bryce Canyon. We then headed east to Bryce Canyon for a short stop to see what we have been missing. Bryce Canyon deserves a lot more time to explore and hike the area.

The Dawsons at Bryce Canyon

We then drove on through Capital Reef and on to Grand Junction for the night. The next day it was back to Colorado Springs and the end of our wonderful Death Valley vacation.

tomas

Tomas has lived in Colorado since age 5. Having grown up on the Western Slope of Colorado lots of time was spent in the Desert Southwest. Tomas' father introduced him to the love of 4 wheeling at an early age in the high mountains around Aspen, Colorado. While an avid Mountain Biker, Tomas and his Family enjoy adventures in the mountains and desert in the remote locations that can only be reached by 4wd. Day hikes are always a must when on the family trips. While enjoying outdoor activities he wants to share his love as a certified 4wd trainer and ski instructor. Tomas also enjoys caving and cave exploration. Tomas currently resides in Colorado Springs.
